A wheel that is even slightly out of balance shows up as a vibration through the steering or the seat at speed. Balancing corrects it, and it is included whenever we fit a replacement tyre.

How balancing works

Add counterweights
Small weights are fitted to the rim to cancel out the heavy spot. Alloy wheels usually take adhesive weights on the inside face rather than clip-on ones.
03 / Verify
Spin it again
The wheel goes back on the balancer to confirm it reads true before it is refitted and torqued to the car.

Signs a wheel needs balancing
A vibration that arrives at a particular speed. Typically it builds from around 50mph, peaks, and eases off again as you go faster.
A shudder through the seat or floor. Felt through the steering usually points at a front wheel; felt through the seat, at a rear one.
After a pothole or a kerb. A hard enough impact can throw a wheel out of balance or knock a weight off entirely.
Patchy or uneven tread wear. An out-of-balance wheel scrubs the tread unevenly, which wears the tyre out early.

Included with every replacement we fit. A new tyre is always balanced as part of the job — it is not a separate charge on a full replacement.
Balancing and alignment are not the same thing. Balancing fixes a vibration. Alignment fixes a car that pulls to one side or wears one edge of the tread. They are different faults with different causes.
Weights come off. Adhesive weights can be lost to jet washing, kerbing or age, and a wheel that was balanced two years ago may not be now.
